Hydrothermal Vents

The deepest known hydrothermal vents on Earth, Beebe Vent Field and Von Damm Vent Field, are in the Cayman Trough (trench). They are in the Caribbean Sea and the Cayman Islands, close to Cuba. Water exits the vents at 842°F! You would think life couldn't possibly exist here but it does! For instance, fireworms and blind shrimp. The blind shrimp have their eyes fused together but they are able to detect really hot water. That's awesome!

Scientists speculate that the moons, Enceladus and Europa, may host these type of vents too. It's pretty cool to think there might be some sort of life form somewhat close by us.
