"Mexican Night"

My mother had always wanted to do a Mexican heritage inspired party but never had the time to do one. This year she planned and executed it. She decided to do it on Mexican Independence Day, September 16th, and it was perfect!

She wanted to keep everything original and used the traditional recipes my grandmother taught her. My father used the cooking instruments that are traditionally used in Mexico to cook some of the food.

We even used jarritos to drink, which are my favorite!

My mother invited her neighbors and our family members. She encouraged them to bring a dish traditionally done in the Mexican State they were from before becoming US citizens or where their ancestors previously lived. Here are a few of the dishes that were brought.

 Entomatadas de queso:

Frijoles a la charra:

 Mole poblano:

Huevos con nopal:

Arroz Mexicano:

Flautas:

She informed them that we would be dressed in the clothes made in the Mexican state in which my father is from, Michoacan. He loves to goof around and brought out a big sombrero they gave him as a joke. I dressed my daughter in a cute Mexican outfit they had given her. She looked so precious.

It was a colorful night filled with laughter and joy and plenty of food!

We were full by the end of the night but somehow we still managed to have space for a cup of authentic Mexican cinnamon spiced coffee.

Like my grandmother used to say, "We may have come from another country for a better future, but never forget where we came from."

With Love,
Cookie
